Many American citizens want to support our economy and business owners by purchasing products from them. However, ceiling fans have become a product that most companies outsource its production.
It was so difficult for me to find ceiling fans that were made in USA. But you will see some options not very much but fewer if are looking for all aspects of assembly and manufacturing to occur in USA; more if you can be satisfied with some parts or the assembly being America-made.
Most ceiling fans’ production is partially or completely based in overseas in different regions of South America and Asia. Most of the ceiling fan brands started their journey in America but shifted the production houses abroad to save costs. Custom-made in the USA fans are available.
Where Are Most Ceiling Fans Made?
Before we start discussing the American made ceiling fans, first you should learn where the most ceiling fans are currently manufactured.
You may have guessed that most ceiling fans around the world are made and produced in China.
Made in the USA Ceiling Fans Still Present
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) states that a product that has a label ‘made in the USA’ must be entirely manufactured in America.
It further says that if all the parts and processes of an item are manufactured and complete in the US, they will be labeled as made in USA.
American Made Ceiling Fans
Unluckily, the companies are hardly making ceiling fans which are entirely produced in the United states of America and can be categorized in it.
Another example we can quote that is one of the leading brands of ceiling fan that is, Hunter, used to make ceiling fans in USA and shifted its production house abroad.
Additionally, the Casablanca Fan company started its journey in the US but later it was acquired by Hunter in 1996, so its production was also shifted abroad.
All the fans manufactured by Casablanca and Hunter are now made in China, after 2002, there are no American-made Hunter ceiling fans.
However, there is still a chance that you can locate an original, Hunter USA-made ceiling fan second hand on resale and websites that support it including eBay.
You need to keep in mind that anyone can sell anything on these types of sites, so before you use them, the best course of action will be to do some research to make sure that you get what you are looking for at a reasonable price.
What About Custom-Made Ceiling Fans?
If you want to get a USA-made fan that guarantees it, getting a custom-made ceiling fan will be a perfect choice in this regard for you.
Windmill Ceiling Fans is one of the examples of a company that manufactures handmade custom ceiling fans only in America. The third-party websites are also listing them such as Etsy and Amazon.
There are many benefits of a custom-made fan. You can get a high-quality, desirable design, handmade product for you. Furthermore, by getting one, you will support a small business too.
Alternatively, since they are made by hand, the cost will be more expensive as compared to a commercial item, and it will more time to get this product.
What Is the Trend of Market These Days?
In the last few years, the trend is to move production back to the country (USA) and many manufacturers are doing it because of pandemic conditions and other events.
So, there is a great chance that in the coming years, you will see more products including ceiling fans, will be made in America again. However, it will also depend on the economy and if the trend seems to be in favor of the customer.
American Made Ceiling Fan Brands
The United States is replete with ceiling fan companies that are based there in order to fulfill the needs of the American market but their production is no longer done in the US.
Here is a short list of brands that are based in America:
- Minka Aire – This brand is a subsidiary of a larger corporation based in California. They make ceiling fans for the American market but they make them in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other regions in China.
- Craftmade – Although the company is in Texas the production of its ceiling fan parts is done in China.
- Monte Carlo Fans – It is another famous ceiling fan brand in the United States that makes its ceiling fans only in China.
- Honeywell – This is another company to mention that is situated in Illinois, is certified as carbon neutral, and produces its ceiling fans in China.
- Kichler Ceiling Fans – These ceiling fans are only manufactured in China; the company is available in New York and you can purchase their ceiling fans online.
Ceiling Fans That Are Partially Made in the America
So, there is a very low chance that you will be able to reach a ceiling fan that is entirely made in the USA, as some companies produce ceiling fans that are not completely made in US (partially manufactured there).
Some of these items’ parts are American made, but some of their parts are also manufactured abroad.
Alternatively, it could also mean that the final item is assembled in the country and the parts of the item are produced overseas.
Here is a list of some brands of ceiling fans that produce units that are partially made in USA.
Matthews Ceiling Fans
Matthews ceiling fans produces some of its parts that are manufactured in USA and all their units are assembled in America. However, some of their parts are also designed outside the country.
The parts that are produced in South America in Brazil include motor castings, fan blades and steel housing. After completion, these items are sent to USA, where the rest of the work is done including assembly.
They ship the components to a manufacturing plant situated in Libertyville, Illinois, where they add American-made motor in order to assemble the final product.
Marley Ceiling Fans
The assembly of Marley ceiling fans is done in South Carolina. However, other components such as motors are manufactured abroad in Asia and Mexico.
In fact, the motors they buy were once produced in USA, but they have now outsourced their production abroad as I previously explained in this section.
Why Do Manufacturers Move Production Overseas?
There are a lot of reasons why most manufacturers prefer to do the production abroad, and it results in profit and cuts down the costs of the items.
When it comes to paying people, the labor in other countries is not as expensive as in the America. Additionally, the parts that are needed to complete the products are comparatively less costly in other countries as compared to the local market.
Apart from lowering the cost of labor and supply, the pace of work is also faster as compared to the USA. These are the elements that compel the companies to manufacture their items in other countries at low cost and ship them to America to get more profit.
